5 Day Canoe Trip on the North Saskatchewan River
Itinerary
Day 1 - Canoe training on the lake
We meet at Twin Lakes just west of Rocky Mountain House. After introductions and a snack, the foundational canoeing skills needed for river travel will be introduced. There will be plenty of time to practice manoeuvres and play water games. At the end of the day, we shuttle to HeLa Ventures, our home for the night. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked supper and campfire, finish packing for the trip, and get a good night's sleep in our rustic cabins.
Day 2 - Depart on River Trip (Nordegg - Gap)
In the morning, we drive to the Nordegg river access, 1.5-hour west of camp. We load our boats, launch and spend the day paddling the river and enjoying the incredible mountain scenery. At the end of the day, we set up our wilderness campsite with enough time leftover to learn bushcraft skills, enjoy a nice dinner and campfire, and fall asleep to the sound of the river.
Days 3-4 - (Gap - Devil's Elbow)
These two days offer a balance of river travel and on shore activities. There will be a mix of paddling downriver, playing in the rapids, swimming, learning more bushcraft skills and simply relaxing and enjoying the view.
Day 5 - Devil's Elbow - National Historic Site
On our final day, we paddle down the river alongside towering sandstone cliffs and keep an eye out for eagles soaring above. We eventually reach the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site where our vehicles are waiting for us. We load gear and enjoy a hearty snack before saying our goodbyes.
